Press Release By:
Sgt. Jennifer Newell, Community Services Section, 405-366-5267

The Norman Police Department received a report yesterday of a Hispanic Male, between 30 and 40 years of age, harassing females in the area of the 900 block of North Porter. He has been seen in an older model, yellow or gold pick-up truck. He has allegedly been blocking in cars and taking video or photographs of the females as they are approaching, as well as speaking obscenely to these females. The original reporting party has seen the vehicle but has not witnessed nor encountered any odd behavior from the driver. We have not received any reports from anyone who has been harassed by this individual.

Unfortunately, the original information that was disseminated by the reporting party, in order to make people aware, has been turned in to something much more disturbing. We have been forwarded e-mails that have claimed this man is a rapist and there have been numerous sexual assaults in the area in the past few days. This information is not accurate.

We certainly want people to be aware that there is someone who is reportedly acting suspiciously, but we want people to have accurate information.

The suspect information has been provided to our officers and we are extra-patrolling the area. If you see a vehicle matching the above description, please contact the Norman Police Department. If you have been contacted or harassed by someone matching the suspect description, please contact us.

We recommend you park in a well-lit area, be aware of your surroundings and call the police department if you see someone acting suspiciously.
