Sgt. William Crews represented the department’s pistol team at the Rocky Mountain Nationals, which is a police pistol combat event held in Raton, NM, July 10-13. He earned 7 first place, 6 second place, and 5 third place finishes during the competition, which tested handgun marksmanship skills from distances of 3 to 50 yards; under time limits; and from different positions.

Accuracy is the key component in the matches, and marksmanship skills are improved through competition. The Norman Police Department Pistol Team is made up of firearms instructors and future instructors. The skills and experience gained at these competitions are brought back and passed on to fellow officers and academy cadets making the department’s training top notch.
