|
A public meeting was held on Thursday,
October 22, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council chambers to present
information and gather input regarding the proposed aesthetic designs
for seven new or retrofitted bridges which cross Interstate 35 through
Norman as well as the SH-9W bridge south of Norman. This is a joint
project between the City of Norman and the Oklahoma Department of
Transportation. ODOT and the City have partnered with another state
agency, Oklahoma Art in Public Places (OAPP), which is directed by Ms.
Debby Williams. The firm of Creative Design Resolutions, Inc. (CDR) of
Baltimore, Maryland was hired by OAPP to design aesthetic features for
the proposed new bridges at US Hwy 77, Tecumseh Road, Rock Creek Road,
Robinson Street, Main Street, Lindsey Street, SH-9E and SH-9W. The
proposed themes can be viewed by clicking on the following link.

NORMAN MAKES TOP 10 |
|
 |
 |
|
 |
 |
| |
CNNMoney.com
announces Norman as one of the top 10 places to live.
CNNMoney.com based their rankings on plentiful jobs, excellent
schools, quality of life and affordable housing.
"Norman is no longer a best kept secret: the
word is out! Norman’s strong sense of community, its high quality of
life and affordability, and its appreciation for diversity, the arts
and culture have earned us this ranking. This honor recognizes not
only the quality leadership and vision of the University of
Oklahoma, our city, our public schools, the health care system, the
business and non profit sectors, but most importantly our citizens.
Such recognitions do not happen by chance, but instead by working
together to build community. The balance we strike as a growing city
and the values we place on being a welcoming and engaged community
will continue to serve us well in the future" said Mayor Cindy
Rosenthal

THREE UNRELATED PERSONS ORDINANCE |
|
 |
 |
|
 |
 |
| |
Over the
past couple of years, complaints about over-occupancy in single family
dwellings have risen steadily. As you may know, the City of Norman
zoning ordinances limit single family dwellings to residents that are
family members, either by blood, marriage or adoption, or not more than
three unrelated persons living together and sharing the common areas
like the kitchen and living areas. This includes apartments,
condominiums, and town homes. This restriction has been part of the
zoning ordinance since 1954 and over the years, the City has explored
various avenues of enforcement to protect City residents from the issues
that arise when multiple unrelated persons live in single family homes.
Complaints generally revolve around traffic, noise, and parking. |
