Walking & Jogging
STAYING SAFE WHILE WALKING OR JOGGING
- Leave a note or make sure someone knows your route
- Try to stay on well traveled streets or roads
- Wear reflective, highly visible clothing
- Try to walk/jog when it is light, if you can not it is a good idea to wear or carry a small light
- Try to always use sidewalks, but if you do have to get in the street make sure you are walking against traffic.
- If you are in the street and you see traffic coming move as far to the edge of the roadway as possible
- Be aware of your surroundings, if you see a suspicious car or person ahead of you turn around and go the other direction
- It is a good idea to try to walk/jog with a friend or group
- It is also a good idea to carry a cell phone and personal alarm while jogging/walking
- Always cross the street at crosswalks or at intersections
- If you do see something suspicious call the police as soon as possible about the situation
- Also please report any hazards you may see to the city, such as signs blocked by overgrown trees or damage to streets (City of Norman action number 405-366-5396)
