Walking & Jogging

STAYING SAFE WHILE WALKING OR JOGGING

  • Leave a note or make sure someone knows your route
  • Try to stay on well traveled streets or roads
  • Wear reflective, highly visible clothing
  • Try to walk/jog when it is light, if you can not it is a good idea to wear or carry a small light
  • Try to always use sidewalks, but if you do have to get in the street make sure you are walking against traffic.
  • If you are in the street and you see traffic coming move as far to the edge of the roadway as possible
  • Be aware of your surroundings, if you see a suspicious car or person ahead of you turn around and go the other direction
  • It is a good idea to try to walk/jog with a friend or group
  • It is also a good idea to carry a cell phone and personal alarm while jogging/walking
  • Always cross the street at crosswalks or at intersections
  • If you do see something suspicious call the police as soon as possible about the situation
  • Also please report any hazards you may see to the city, such as signs blocked by overgrown trees or damage to streets (City of Norman action number 405-366-5396)
