Recognition
Certificate of Recognition
May be presented to any individual who, while acting as a representative of or performing duties for the Norman Police Department, during involvement in any incident or civic function, and executes those responsibilities in an outstanding and exemplary manner, which clearly exceeds expectations associated with their regular duties, and brings favorable recognition to themselves and the department.
Civilian Metal
May be awarded for the personal assistance by a civilian in apprehending a criminal and extending one’s self beyond one’s personal safety to provide prompt action to aid individuals who are in danger, or for outstanding, exemplary and extended service to the Norman Police Department.
Civilian Certificate
May be awarded to any civilian who by personal acts bring favorable recognition to themselves through involvement in civic affairs or activities which are associated with the Norman Police Department, or who assist in creating permanent solutions to problems or enhancing the quality of life in the City of Norman, or who assist an officer in the apprehension of a person or persons.
Employee Of The Year
Lapel Pin: White with one centered light blue vertical stripe and gold trim
To be awarded to any police employee who is seriously injured while performing police duties. The committee may consider injuries sustained for falls on ice, motor vehicle accidents, if evidence clearly indicates the employee exhausted reasonable safety precautions and had no control over the circumstances.
Firearms Award
Bar and Lapel Pin: Black/White/Black
May be awarded to any Norman Police Officer who, during firearms qualification courses, obtains extraordinary scores, displaying exemplary results to other officers, and brings favorable recognition to himself or herself and the department. Extraordinary scores shall be considered as being in excess of 95% of the total possible score. Only courses designated by the range master, (i.e., PPC, Norman Short Course, et al), will be utilized for consideration for this award. The Awards Committee Chair shall be responsible for obtaining and verifying firearm scores. Consideration for the Firearms Award may be extended to Norman Police Employees who excel in outside firearms competition or accomplishments and/or are selected for the Governor’s Twenty Program. The award recipient will receive a bar the first time the award is conferred. Officers who qualify for subsequent firearms awards will be presented with a certificate or may considered for a different award.
Physical Fitness
Bar and Lapel Pin: Green
To be awarded to officers who exceed 90% on the annual FIT testing conducted by the department. Only those officers who have achieved the requirements for the physical fitness award during the present testing period shall wear the award. This award includes a lapel pin. Consideration for the Physical Fitness Award may be extended to Norman Police Employees who excel in physical fitness competitions or accomplishments outside the department. The award recipient will receive a bar the first time the award is conferred. Officers who qualify for subsequent physical fitness awards will be presented with a certificate or may considered for a different award.
